The Low Countries not only have a rich history, dating back to Roman and medieval times, as one of the most prosperous regions of Europe in the Middle Ages, they can boast with unique architecture, exquisite art collections and historical cities.
Architecture
Marvel at 14th century gothic cathedrals in Brussels, Bruges or Ghent, gaze at baroque grandeur in Antwerp or the typical ‘new style’ in Amsterdam and Delft. Also very modern architecture is ubiquitous in the Low Countries, with world-famous architects like Victor Horta, Henry Van de Velde, Gerrit Rietveld, Hendrik Berlage or Rem Koolhaas.
Art museums and galleries
There are some splendid art museums in the Low Countries, that are well worth the visit. See the works of famous painters like Memling, Van Eyck, Rubens, Van Gogh, Rembrandt and Magritte. Or visit one of the many galleries to buy some unique piece of art.
Comics
Comics are a form of art, which becomes clear while visiting the Comic Art Museum in Brussels, the Museum of Comic Art in Noordwijk or Storyworld in Groningen. The most famous comic artist also have their own museum: Hergé Museum, Suske & Wiske Museum at the Vandersteen Studios, the Anton Pieck Museum and many more.
